I stumbled upon this video yesterday and wanted to share it with y’all. In February 2012, the Harvard Innovation Lab hosted a panel discussion titled “Artist as Entrepreneur” with Wynton Marsalis, acclaimed jazz musician, composer, educator and advocate.
My favorite part of the discussion was when he said: “artists have always been entrepreneurial.” According to the jazz master, “a score is a business plan. A sheet of music contains so much information, and artists require education to read that plan and execute it to the highest standards possible. There is specificity in both art and music.” he said.
